Encouraging designers to leave the screen… for a few hours
Graphic Design Is Not Dead is a series of design workshops and events that bring graphic designers together offline. Created in response to a shifting industry that is becoming more automated, templated and prompted. This project aims to reconnect with the craft of design. It’s about creating with your hands. A space to experiment and spend time with other designers in a human environment. Every workshop is a different theme.
Whether you’ve been working as a Designer for many years, you’re just getting started, or you’re simply curious, this is a space for you. This is not a networking event. It is a space to nourish your creativity and feel good.

Origami Packaging Design

Time 12 PM - 2 PM
Join us for an origami packaging design workshop. You will learn how paper can be folded and transformed into a three-dimensional structure. Guided by a specialist, you will create interesting boxes, geometric shapes and patterns while learning the core folding techniques behind paper construction. Through the process, you will explore how shape and form can influence packaging design.

Time From 10.30 AMJoin us for a day of letterpress printing. In this beginner-friendly taster into the world of letterpress, you will experience the historic printing process that sits at the very foundation of graphic design. Led by a specialist, you will be guided through the printing process in a small collaborative group. You will try out constructing the type, inking the machine and printing.

Time 1:00 PMManchester Event 3 introduces you to the world of lino printing. You’ll learn how to create bold, graphic prints by carving into lino and transferring your design as print on paper by hand. A specialist will guide you through the core techniques, tools and materials used in lino print. You will build your own composition, and learn contrast and negative space through the carving process.

Time 6:30 PMJoin us for an evening of collage making. In this guided workshop, you will work with a curated selection of materials to create your compositions and image combinations. A specialist will guide you through different approaches to collage. Working from a creative brief, you will build narratives and experiment with layouts.

Time 12.45 PMManchester event 2 introduces you to the world of vintage sign painting. You’ll learn how to create bold, eye-catching lettering using paint, working on your own wooden board. A specialist will guide you through the core techniques, tools and materials used in sign painting. You will build your own sign using traditional styling techniques such as outlines, shadows, patterns and embellishments. Whether you keep it minimal or go more expressive, the focus is on experimenting and creating something by hand.

Time 10.45AM and 1.25PMEvent 6 teaches you how to bind your next booklet or designed magazine. In this bookbinding workshop, you will learn the basics of binding and how to make double and single pamphlet (five hole and three hole) books with sewn in cover. You will also learn about paper grain direction, making and using your sewing pattern and measuring cover paper to fit book signature.
